New Mercies

Wow. What a week this has been. Without going into too much detail or getting bogged down in complaining, let me just say that my stress level has been at an all-time high. Work has been tough and overwhelming. My family has been trying to fight off all the germs that are being passed around school like free candy at a parade. And I have been absolutely exhausted, falling asleep in my chair by 7, unable to stay awake for very long.

There’s nothing like committing to write for the Lord and then not being able to stay awake to do it.

But I digress.

In all the craziness of the week, I still continued to get up in the morning and spend time with the Lord almost every day. And I don’t say that to brag. It wasn’t too long ago that my early morning time with the Lord would have been the first thing to go when life got to be too much. I’m learning as I walk with the Lord, that spending time with him is much more than just “what good Christians do”. It’s life-giving and soul-refreshing.

And I definitely needed my soul refreshed this week. Maybe you do too.

Lamentations 3:22-23 says,

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love, we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say, “The Lord is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in him.”

Life may be crazy. Life may be hard. Life may be exhausting. We may need to give something up to make it through our days. But, let me encourage you, whatever you do, don’t give up meeting with the Lord. He’s there every morning waiting to renew your soul.

Whatever this week has brought you, whatever load you may be carrying (or crumbling beneath), the best thing you can do is sit at the feet of Jesus and let him be your portion. Nothing else will sustain you like the mercies of the Lord waiting for you every morning.

When something has got to give, give it all to Jesus.

Well said, but there is a reason the Lord has challenged us with this challenge. I believe we all have the ability to overcome this challenge. Take it one day at a time and know that each will not be as productive as we plan. There is nothing wrong with that!
